FOREIGN teachers were given a taste of Scarborough life when they met the mayor as part of a tour of the town.
There were around 50 teachers in total from a variety of different European countries, all visiting as part of a training course offered by Anglolang, based in Avenue Road.

The course consists of four weeks of internet learning along with a two week on site contact phase, which allows the teachers to meet each other and experience the Yorkshire way of life.

Mayor Eileen Vickers said: "It was very enjoyable meeting the teachers and I was interested to hear their views about Scarborough.

"I think schemes like this are very good for the town as a lot of the teachers said they had never been to Scarborough before but would come back for a holiday as they enjoyed their time here so much."

Anglolang, which is one of Scarborough's international English language schools, offers teacher training courses for primary, secondary and vocational teachers from non English speaking EU countries.

Veronica Omeni, director of studies, said: "The visitors usually stay with local families in Scarborough who do their best to welcome them and help them feel at home in a new environment."

Following their visit and their encounter with the mayor the teachers will be submitting reports and presentations about Scarborough to colleagues in their home countries, which included Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Italy, Spain, and Turkey.
